SON-SHINE Outreach Center is a not for profit, that was began in Oct 1987 in a closet at the First United Methodist Church, was incorporated in October 2009 by concerned community leaders who saw far too few services available in Madison County for those desperate and in need for services, and has grown to serve over 6,000 clients annually.. The mission of service ministries among the various churches and service organizations is entered into out of a sense that no one person or no one church alone can deal with the complex interrelated problems in our community, and out of a deep sense that we are all part of the church called into being by the life, death and resurrection of Christ. Therefore, it is most desirable that this be a cooperative ministry effort. This ministry shall be in keeping with the spirit of Christ, “Whatsoever you do to the least of these my brothers, you do it unto Me.” The Center seeks to enlist the support of member churches and their congregations and service organizations in order to: respond to the physical, spiritual, material, social and educational needs of persons in this area; work in cooperation with both public and private agencies serving persons; open channels of communication between various groups within the area and be a channel for all groups of goodwill to serve humankind. Persons with needs are to be served regardless of race, gender, social and economic status, national origin, or religious background, to the end that all persons served can be helped to achieve their fullest potential as Children of God. The Center develops, sponsors, promotes programs, and policies and functions in order to respond to the call of people who are in need.
